The students also hosted a study group for 3 weeks where they basically locked themselves in a room and did some hardcore studying. As you can see, they jotted down all the information they could on Security. However, it was not only the content for the exam that needed to be learned, but sheer test taking skills. All told, they spent over hours preparing for this particular exam. So far, 12 out of the 16 students have taken this exam and have passed it.

The other 4 are taking the exam over the holidays. Its purpose is to increase the interest of one million young women in STEM by connecting them to one million mentors from related fields. We invited her to share some words of wisdom.

It requires persistence to hone the right skills, deliver results for clients, and find the right mentors. Having a good network of mentors has also offered me the opportunity to learn from others who have different experiences than me.

Building career capital requires the ability to be flexible and take risks. People should also look for opportunities to stretch themselves through constant collaboration and networking within their company as well as in the community.

They provide a great deal of guidance through your career journey and can sometimes provide suggestions for career paths that you may have not considered before. Always ask questions, and take on new challenges to grow your skill set, but find a mentor too. A mentor provides a valuable resource to help you focus and maintain perspective. As a Board member, I know that NPower and Accenture share a common commitment to equip people with the skills necessary to succeed in technology careers through training and mentoring.

We are also excited to support the new mentoring and continuing education initiative for alumni of the Technology Service Corps, which builds brighter futures for underserved young adults and veterans through free technology and professional skills training. Technology is changing at an unprecedented rate and the career opportunities are numerous — for women and men alike. We look forward to a fruitful working together towards even greater impact building tech skills in nonprofits, schools and individuals so they can achieve their potential.

Chris Wearing was one of the original founders of NPower and has given generously of his time, counsel and leadership over the past 13 years. The gala celebrates the social impact of this great work. On September 11, twenty proud armed-forces veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars will be the first to graduate from the NPower Dallas Technology Service Corps TSC , an innovative, veteran-focused technology job training program launched in April Four of these new program graduates have been selected to receive special awards.

We need to let girls know early in their development that technology is fun and not just for boys. This involves breaking down stereotypes, encouraging girls and letting them know that they can do great things with careers in math and science. We must help girls recognize the pervasiveness of technology and understand how it can help them achieve their passions.

An estimated , service members including Guard and Reserves will leave the military each year over the next 5 years. NPower is committed to building brighter futures and providing opportunities for Dallas military veterans. The Dallas facility officially opened with an inaugural class of 31 students.

Students will participate in an extensive week program that incl udes detailed classroom work, professional mentoring, apprenticeship and job placement supp ort. In , TSC opened a second program location in Harlem. TSC will continue to focus on national expansion and pl ans are underway to launch a 4th TSC site in to serve veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding communities.

The TSC program is free to qualified students. Successful applicants must be individuals serving in the military or honorably discharged ages Graduates are required to successfully complete all the course work, including a seven week apprenticeship.

Your efforts make a difference and make the world a better place through the power of technology. The audience and speakers represented all sectors of technology: The breakfast was a great first step in bringing the broader tech community together. A dynamic set of speakers provided powerful messages of encouragement and inspiration and addressed an audience of over women to keep pursuing their dreams and to help other women do the same.

The Keynote address was presented by technologist and pioneer Deborah Estrin. The red chair recognizes the important role women play in creating future technology.
